Description:
The German Army Medical Corps, at that time had neither blood banks nor plasma in the field; they used live donors. Thus these German prisoners were getting treatment they could not have gotten from their own medics. The Italian Doctor in the background, also a prisoner of war, was helping the British orderlies to give American blood and/or plasma to these seriously burned German tank men.
British, German, and Italian soldiers all got the same treatment. Enemies of yesterday, when wounded became brothers in pain and often helped each other while riding in our ambulance.
Location: The 12th LFA [Light Field Ambulances] near El Hamma, Tunisia.
