This image (Digital ID: SB_0080) is found on page 9 (Digital ID: IMG_0540) of William B. Kinter's scrapbook. William B. Kinter's margin notes: "Temple of Ananda – the largest in Pagan – built by reigning king about 1000 A.D. – it contains 4 Buddhas 35 ft. tall facing N., S., E., & W. – the story is that 4 missions were sent out the 4 directions to collect money & designs to build the images – each mission constructed its image without seeing the others – when they were all finished they were found to have the same face but different clothes of the 4 different regions the missions went to. The one facing West does have Indian dress."
